Pet Loss Comfort
Whether we call them pets, companions, critters, furballs, fuzzies or any of the endearing names people use, the loss of our precious animal friends can be a devastating experience.
After I lost my magical dog, Martha, in 1995, I was so heartbroken I didn’t know how to go on without her. I thought she’d be by my side as I left the corporate workplace and began the search for my “soul work.” As it turned out, her unexpected loss would lead to the writing of my first book, For Every Dog An Angel, and to the creation of Lighthearted Press.
With Martha’s help, I had found my soul work.
One of the greatest gifts of this work has been sharing stories…and more than a few tears…with animal lovers all over the world about our cherished critters. Nothing builds a bridge more quickly between people than opening your broken heart to another person who understands the sorrow of losing a beloved pet.
I found out just how meaningful those connections were after I lost my forever dog, Jake, in 2006. Many of the wonderful people I’d met through my books offered me a shoulder to lean on…and cry on. I can’t begin to tell you how much their support meant to me.
If you are coping with the loss of a special animal companion you, too, may be as grief-stricken as I was. With the guidance of Jake, Martha, and all the magical critters who have shared my life, I offer this new section called Pet Loss Comfort. I’ve included many stories and pictures from my own personal experiences, so you can see not only how I said goodbye to my dear animals, but also how I celebrated them.
May these words bring you some comfort.
