Lessons in Love - what our animals teach us
Every time we invite a new animal into our life we have the chance to begin a wondrous journey. Creatures seem to have a capacity for experiencing joy in the most simplest of moments, and they invite us to join them in this blissful existence, even if it’s only for awhile. They don’t need expensive toys or anything fancy. Cats find happiness with a piece of crumpled paper that accidentally falls on the floor. Most dogs are in heaven if you take them for a walk. They just want to be by your side.
Having been around animals since I was a little girl, I know that a life without them would be no life at all for me. These furry, feathered, finned, scaly mystics know so much more than I will ever know. They share their love just for the joy of doing so. They know how to live in the moment…and that is all we ever really have anyway. They practice forgiveness on a level that I can only hope to understand someday.
They come into our lives, and then all too soon it is time for us to say goodbye to them. Even though nothing in life is permanent, it seems to be human nature to try and hold onto everything, as if that will bring us security…or peace. That’s just not the way the universe works.
So when our animals say goodbye, and leave us to journey on without them, perhaps they are giving us the greatest gift of all.
Perhaps they are teaching us how to let go…with grace, love and joy.
